The winter recruitment period proves to be a period of significant rumour and possible major moves. A number of high-profile stars are being linked with moves out of their current clubs. We examine some of the top figures who might be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player in contention, indications are a significant transfer is close. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a short window at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions have emerged as his signature. Former suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative options, leaving teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

This England centre-back has continued to excel for Crystal Palace this season a previous move to Liverpool collapsing. With his contract due to expire in the close season, this represents the London club's final opportunity to secure a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous elite sides, including Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. However, a winter exit is considered difficult, especially given the coach's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

The Wales winger has had starting opportunities hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. The experienced German goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barcelona under new coach Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter departure looks increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that move now appears off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

This prolific England striker has kept finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading hopes of being in the England squad. But, arranging a transfer poses significant challenges. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his reported enormous weekly wages make any move complicated. Harvey Elliott

Although excelling and winning player of the tournament at the U21 Euros in the summer, this young player has struggled for minutes during his loan spell at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the temporary transfer will not become permanent. Due to FIFA regulations about playing for two clubs in a season, a move back to Liverpool before next summer seems to be the sole available outcome.

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish forward is in fine form for Juventus this term. With his existing contract running down, a host of Premier League clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are eager to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a race to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

The much-admired Dutch midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. This teenager is widely expected to make a big-money move this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
